A year has passed since Pete Fernandez’s latest, closest brush with death and he’s managed to rebuild his life, running a small bookstore by day and working cases in Miami by night. Sober and finally embracing life, Pete still finds himself watching as events whizz by ― including the engagement of an old flame. When an aging Cuban mobster asks Pete to find out who killed his drug-addicted, jazz pianist son and to locate his missing daughter-in-law, Pete balks, until another dead body suggests that the death of the mafioso’s son might tie into the people that almost ended Pete’s life, and reveal an unexpected, dangerous truth about the Miami private eye’s own blurred past.

Advance Praise for MIAMI MIDNIGHT

“Segura wraps up his hit Pete Fernandez saga in style with this twisty, surprising conclusion.”
–Entertainment Weekly

“A page-turner that delivers. Thrills, spills, and chills ratchet ever-upward to a satisfying finale.”
–Library Journal

“Miami has never been so vibrant, so full of ghosts, as it is in this latest Fernandez novel, which gives Segura ample room to explore the hidden pockets and stories of his (and his hero’s) hometown.”
–CrimeReads

“The Pete Fernandez novels are a must-read for any crime fiction series fan. Alex Segura is a writer to watch.”
–Alafair Burke, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Better Sister

“Finally, during the dog days of August, I recommend hanging with bookseller and sort of retired PI Pete Fernandez in Alex Segura’s deeply absorbing Miami Midnight. I’d suggest reading this with Coltrane or Dizzy playing in the background, a chilled mojito next to you, and nothing on your schedule because you’ll not want to put this book down.”
–Carole Barrowman, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

“An old-fashioned knight errant, Pete slogs and slugs his way forward until the last bullets have been sprayed. Fans of pulp detective fiction of an earlier era will appreciate this one.”
–Publishers Weekly

“I blasted through Miami Midnight. A fantastic noir with a complex and very human hero in Pete Fernandez. My takeaway: more books should be set in Miami and more novels should be written by Alex Segura.”
–Lisa Lutz, author of The Passenger and The Swallows

“Miami Midnight starts with a private investigator trying to track down a missing painting. How dangerous can that be, right? Well, it is Miami, and it is Pete Fernandez, so hang on. Alex Segura’s P.I. series is one of the best around, and this latest offering might very well be the pick of the bunch. Don’t miss it.”
–Michael Harvey, author of Pulse and Brighton

Miami Midnight is topflight suspense, full of head-snapping twists, but what sets it apart is its richly detailed and engaging characters, especially Pete Fernandez whose troubled past rises up to threaten him and all he holds dear. As a special bonus, Alex Segura takes us on a tour of a South Florida more exotic, dangerous, and complex than any I’ve experienced in a long, long time.”
–James W. Hall, author of the acclaimed Thorn mystery series

“A dark and absorbing read from Miami native Segura, this fifth novel in an acclaimed series appears to be the finale. But fans will root for Pete’s return, not yet ready to part with the engaging sleuth or the compellingly evoked setting. Not to mention needing another chance to ask, ‘ÂżEstás loca?'”
–Booklist

“As with Segura’s previous novels in this series, terrifically telling musical, literary, pop-culture touches and details abound: I particularly enjoyed the not-so-mysterious femme fatale with a pleasingly sophisticated taste for thrillers.”
–The Seattle Review of Books
